Start this recipe by sieving together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon and cloves. Stir in the crushed caraway seeds. Next, beat together the butter and sugar till light, then stir in the eggs one by one and the vanilla. Finally stir in the flour and spice mixture to form a soft dough. Roll and form the dough into balls and `S` shapes and place onto baking sheets spaced apart. Bake in the oven at 200`c for approximately 15 minutes or until pale in colour. Remove from the oven and allow to cool down completely before decorating the top with piped royal icing.
