Apple and berry mulled wine


  • 1 x 750ml bottle Merlot wine
  • 500ml good apple juice
  • 50g muscovado sugar
  • 3 tbsp liqueur
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • Fresh grated nutmeg
  • 2 red apples, sliced with skin on


To make the mulled wine, place the wine, sugar, apple juice, cinnamon sticks and star anise into a large saucepan and heat gently for 15 minutes without boiling. Add in the apple slices, frozen mixed fruits and liqueur and heat for a further 5 minutes. Serve whilst still warm.
